Amazon launches AWS for Games, dedicated products and services for the gaming industry

AWS are stepping up their pitches to game developers and publishers as the industry grows.

Amazon announced AWS for Games on Wednesday, a suite of goods and services tailored to the gaming industry from AWS and its partners. It's the latest effort by Amazon Web Services and its rivals to highlight the significant market opportunity that gaming represents for cloud providers.

For a long time, Amazon has focused on the gaming industry. For some years, AWS has provided dedicated gaming services, with Amazon GameLift starting in 2016. Aside from the cloud, Amazon has Amazon Game Studios and Twitch, a game-streaming business that Amazon bought in 2014.

Nonetheless, given current market conditions and projections, it's no wonder that the cloud business is expanding its products. The global cloud gaming market size is expected to reach $6.5 billion by 2024, up from $1.57 billion last year, according to the analytics firm Newzoo.

In a statement, Bill Vass, VP of AWS Engineering, said, "Cloud adoption has altered the way games are produced, distributed, and enjoyed." "Game creators are continuing to speed their cloud journey, building faster games and running them with continuous updates, all while increasing their player base and play engagement."

According to him, the launch of AWS for Games, as well as other new services and solutions, would enable clients to manage high-priority workloads while increasing their usage of game analytics, live operations, and artificial intelligence.

Cloud Game Development, Game Servers, Game Security, Live Operations, Game Analytics, and Game AI & ML are all areas where AWS for Games provides gaming-specific services and products, as well as partner support. AMD, AppsFlyer, Beamable, Databricks, Epic Games, Incredibuild, NVIDIA, Parsec, Perforce, Slalom, Snowflake, and Teradici are among the initiative's partners.

AWS also unveiled a trial of Amazon GameSparks on Wednesday, a fully-managed service built on AWS that makes it simple to build, optimize, and expand game backend functionality. AWS GameKit, an open-source solution that allows game creators to deploy and customize game backend features straight from a game engine with only a few clicks, decreasing the time it takes to integrate cloud-based services from weeks to days, was also revealed.

There's also new Amazon Nimble Studio guidelines for game developers, allowing them to build up a virtual game studio in hours, scale capacity on demand, and generate content faster and more cost-effectively.
