AWS announces new, free training initiatives for people seeking cloud computing skills

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched two new free educational projects to help people learn the basics of cloud computing. The efforts are part of Amazon's goal to train 29 million individuals in cloud computing skills for free by 2025.

"These two services assist people in improving their skills and employability. By making these programs free, we're continuing to innovate how learners can improve their cloud knowledge and practical skills, meeting them where they are and placing knowledge within anyone's reach "AWS director of Cloud Career Training Programs Kevin Kelly said.

The new initiatives include:

AWS Cloud Quest: Cloud Practitioner

It's a role-playing learning game that uses interactive learning and hands-on activities with AWS services to help people build practical cloud skills. By completing learning exercises such as laboratories, quizzes, and puzzles, you'll be able to solve challenges everywhere across the virtual Cloud Quest metropolis.

AWS Cloud Quest is suited for adult learners who are just starting out in their careers or are new to the cloud. AWS Skill Builder makes it available in English for personal computers all across the world.

Reimagined AWS Educate

The reimagined AWS Educate program includes new courses and hands-on labs, making it easier than ever for people as young as 13 years old to register and gain access to hundreds of hours of free, self-paced training, resources, and labs designed specifically for new-to-the-cloud learners like students and job-training participants.

New features include:

  • Four new courses: Cloud Computing 101, AWS DeepRacer Primer, Machine Learning Foundation, and Builder Labs

  • Ten new labs: help learners put theory into practice

  • Redesigned website: guides learners to training content based on their knowledge, goals, interests, and age

  • New online Explore section: features supplementary content, such as new courses, Twitch videos, blogs, and technical papers
